Reading Challenge 2014 - Half Year Progress!

This year, for the first year ever, I have challenged myself to read 25 books - so roughly around two a month. I love reading, but I feel like I spend too much time choosing a book, when I really could just be reading books to see if they are my kind of thing.

I've really enjoyed keeping a record on goodreads on what books I've completely, and it totally adds to that 'end of a book accomplishment' feeling you get!

It's now half way through the year so I'm doing a bit of a mid year review on how I've done with this reading challenge so far. I think I have done pretty much spot on what I wanted to achieve by this time! At 52% I am really super pleased with myself, and it hasn't been a challenge at all, it's just been really enjoyable to get lost in these new worlds.

The books that I have read are below, beginning with The 5th Wave.

As you can see, I'm a huge, HUGE fan of post apocalyptic novels, and most recently I have discovered the Maze Runner Trilogy by James Dashner (at the top) and also Ready Player One by Ernest Cline. Also, I adore Jaqueline Wilson. Her stories are such amazing escapism, and reading them from an adult point of view makes them ten times better.

I have loved every single one of the books I've read this year, in particular Room, Amy and Roger's Epic Detour and The Scorch Trials (Book 2). I thoroughly recommend these books to you, and I would love to know if you have read them too.

You can find my GoodReads profile here, so let's be friends :)

Can you suggest what book I should read next?

Mini Break Make Up - What I'm Taking

As I mentioned in my last post, I am off to London this weekend! Therefore, I thought I would sneak in a little post about the make up I am taking with me, I always find these little posts quite interesting myself to read!

I'm trying to not take too much make up with me - I hate carrying around a big bag of make up, and I'd rather leave more room in my case for shopping!

Rimmel Stay Matte Powder - Translucent
MAC Studio Fix Fluid in NW10
Collection Concealer - Light
MUA Blusher in Marshmallow
Sleek Contour Kit
Maybelline Baby Lips in Cherry Me
No.07 Stay Perfect Lipstick in Classic Rose
L'Oreal Volume Million Lashes Noir Excess
17 Super Liner in Black

The contour kit from Sleek will usually double up as my eyeshadow too if I'm feeling fancy!

I'm Going to London! - Jasmine's Journal

Hellooo! I thought it was time for a little update on what I'm getting up to. This next week is a going to be a big week for me, and last night it got ten times more exciting.

On Saturday 21st June it is my 21st birthday! I always get super excited for my birthday, and this one is about to get even better. The plan originally was to meet up with some friends for a meal whilst playing Pokemon (which obviously, is amazing), but then my Dad offered me some money to spend the weekend in London with Jack - and last night I booked the hotels! We will be staying over Saturday  and Sunday night, whilst spending three whole days exploring London - I am BEYOND excited. This was exactly what I always wanted to do for my 21st birthday, and now it is going to happen!

I love just being a tourist in London. Although I've been there many times before, there is still just so much that I have not seen. My main aims are:

  • Visit the science museum for hours and HOURS! :)
  • Visit the Natural History Museum for even more hours
  • Go on the London Eye
  • See Matilda the Musical and/or Wicked the Musical
  • Go to Forbidden Planet
  • Eat lots of frozen yoghurt. And pizza.

A lot of things will probably be added to the list, but this is where we are starting off. Randomly - did you know there was a silent disco at the shard? Isn't that a little bit crazy and awesome? I'm particularly excited for the shows. I've already seen Wicked 10 times since I was 14 - I freaking adore that show - and Matilda is something that Jack and I have been obsessing over the soundtrack of recently too.

It doesn't really stop there though, on Tuesday it's my GRADUATION! Which also happens to be in London. I'm nervous about what I actually have to do for it, but I can't wait to get dressed up in the gown and see everyone graduate from the course. My Mum and Dad will be there too which will make it all extra special.

So - that is the plan for the next 7 days. I'm a bit nervous because it does sound like a lot, but I think my aim is going to be to enjoy as much as possible, and listen to myself and what I want to do. I'm looking forward to chilling in the hotel, and spending so much time with Jack.

I hope you are all well.

What's your favourite thing to do in London?

Taste! Festival at Chichester

Today was a lovely day! Now it's the technically the summer season, all the fairs are open at the weekend, and there's not much more I love than a good mooch around a fair. This particular fair was the Chichester Taste! Festival in Oaklands park, and showcased lots of local food and the like. It was free to get into, the food was delicious (a lot of it free) and there was great company and great entertainment. Like, seriously - what more could you ask for?
The talking point of the event, however, was probably the weather. the day started with fairly neutral weather, and then suddenly became a scorching hot and bright summer's day. It was so hot we had to hide in shelter to keep us from melting like ice creams in the sun. Then - as you can see with these photos - the weather turned to complete torrential rain. I have not seen this much rain in a long, long time. It was fierce! But it ultimately made the day even more exciting, and gave me more to photograph and us more to talk about.

Also, a little soundtrack for the photos:

Jack attacking his huggge hotdog.
Us. Nawwwwwwwh.

This band was called The Voodoo Love Orchestra and where pretty awesome. I loved their music and their style here.

Ice creaaaaam! And probably, the last of the sun.

Dark clouds ahead...

Annnnd the rain releases and crashes into us.

My Favourite Things!

Ahhh I really do love writing these little 'my favourite things'  blogs, it makes me really appreciate the small things even more. I think I might start writing them once a fortnight because by now I have forgotten what I loved at the beginning of may (doh!).

No.7 Cleansing Balm
An old favourite, that I've recently discovered again. A beautiful cleansing balm for dry skin, especially as Boots usually have £5 off No.7 skincare - mine will always go on this now! I wouldn't recommend it for Oily Skin, but if your skin is even a little bit dry then this is seriously ah-mazing. It can also remove your make up - bonus!

L'Oreal Noir Excess Mascara
Recommended by Fleur De Force I thought I would give this a try - it doesn't disappoint. It's not necessarily one of those 'god damn amazing boom' mascaras but it adds great length and volume and a gorgeous black colour. It lasts all day. Awesome for the price. I'm really enjoying using it, and I know that I can always trust in it to make a good difference.

Glitter on Plain Nails
Recently the whole full-blown-manicured nails just have not been for me. Not only have I kind of lost patience with it, I'm just not enjoying how my nails look covered in nail polish. I've gone bare nails for a little while and really loved it, but now I'm just putting a coat or two of glittery polish so my nails look bare but with a little bit of extra sparkle. It's a love/hate kind of look I think, but I love that my nails shimmer in the light. My favourite is Juicy Jules by Model's Own.

The Maze Runner Trilogy
Seriously. Guys. I'm in love with this series, and I have pretty much just read all three books all the way through. If you liked anything about The Hunger Games or Divergent then you will just eat this series up. There's a film coming out at the end of the year, and I am now beyond excited for it. I'm 90% through the final book. I need to go read the rest now, kthnxbi.

A freaking awesome documentary about not trusting everyone you start talking to on the internet. I've avoided watching this documentary for quite a while now because I thought it wasn't for me, but after watching it I now know that this is the best documentary I have ever seen, and I have watched quite a lot. It's making me want to go out right now and shoot a documentary for myself.

I'm super excited for the coming couple of weeks! Life is pretty stressful for me at the moment, but next week on June 21st is my 21st birthday (hooray!) and then on June 24th is my graduation in London which I have loved shopping for. But - more on that soon!

Wishing you all a freakin' gorgeous weekend.

Rabbitwood turns 1!

On Sunday 8th June, this blog turned one whole year old. One year ago when I first started this blog, I remember saying to myself that I wanted the blog to be active for at least a year. I am so proud of this blog, and the direction that it has begun to take.

I have met some lovely people and read some lovely blogs over the last year, and the blogging community is one of my favourite things about owning a blog.
